Otara Bay + Wharekirauponga Track

29th September 2018 – Back to the Coromandel to try and walk some tracks that will be (partially) closing soon. Ended up to be more of a slow leisurely road trip. Attempt to do Lynch Stream Track thwarted, only got to the far end of Otara Bay and a bit inland before being greeted with a sign to go away.Looped back along the rocky coast back to the carpark.

Did Wharekirauponga Track. About an hour each way leisurely walk. Track condition at the start is excellent for about half of it, then gradually becomes boggy in places. Loop at the end takes around 30 minutes including photo stops. Several Hunter tracks lead off of that loop. Going Anti Clockwaise around the loop, you pass a Battery site (not much to see), climb up a little, walk through a short tunnel and clamber along some rocks before reaching the Suspension bridge from where you can view the Falls. The return leg continues a climb, before a sharp term back towards the car park and a very slippery track downwards (clay).

At that point, ran out of Day light to do anything else (only about an hour before sun down),
